A Study on the Increasing Rate of the Masricatory Ability in Full Denture Wearers

Abstract
An experimental study was conducted on 21 full denture subjects in an effort to study the increasing phenomena of the masticatory ability as the rate.
Since both the bite force and mastitcatory function arc derived from the common anatomical bases
and have the same diagnostic values, the masticatory ability was devided into two parts as the maximum bite force and masticatory efficiency. Both the maximum bite force and matsicatory efficiency for the masticatory ability were tested by means of electronic strain gauge and 20-mesh screen.
The results were as follows;
1. The masticatory ability of the full denture wearing subjects was increasing within the certain period.
2. Although the increasing rate of the maximum bite force was greater than that of the masticatory efficiency, the recovering rate of the masticatory efficiency was greater than that of the maximum bite force when it was compared with that of the normal data.
3. The values of the right and left side on the masticatory ability of the full denture wearing subjects were less significant.
4. The variability of the maximum bite force was greater than that of the masticatory efficiency.
5. There were no correlations between the maximum bite force and the masticatory efficiency within the period of the full denture adaption.
